Your Green MP candidate for Isle of Wight East

Standing up for a fairer, greener Isle of Wight

The General Election on 4th July is an exciting opportunity for Islanders from Ryde, Bembridge, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor and beyond to have a hardworking & determined MP for this new constituency

Vix on Politics South

Vix was on the BBC show on 26th May 2024 with Jessica Toale (Labour, Bournemouth West), Sidney Yankson (Conservative, Southampton Itchen) and Danny Chambers (LibDem, Winchester). Topics discussed included food & farming, the NHS and Brexit.

A new MP for the Isle of Wight is possible.

“I’m standing as your prospective new MP because the residents of the Isle of Wight deserve better. For too long we have elected an MP who works on behalf of their large, Westminster party and not the needs of islanders.

“I’ve lived on the Isle of Wight for nearly 20 years - first moving to Bonchurch in 2005.. My 3 boys were born here, work and go to school here. I’m a classroom teacher in island schools, and I see first hand the consequences of over a decade of government failures which impact on the most vulnerable in our communities.

“My top priorities are to support our local economy and culture, to strengthen our public services, and to protect our unique island countryside and coastlines.

“I love to listen to all islanders - please get in touch and say hello!”

Vix

Capable and determined

Vix has shown leadership and brought her experience and skills to a number of local Isle of Wight campaigns, including the successful fight against oil drilling in Arreton. She continues to support the Stop the Sewage campaign for clean beaches, to keep the NHS public, to challenge inappropriate housing development, to retain railway ticket offices, and to see improved wages for key workers.

Most recently she has worked closely with the Wightlink Users Group committee to gain improved access to ferries for NHS patients on the Island - and continues to campaign for fairer fares and a Public Service Obligation.

She will be a hardworking and principled MP for islanders.

Ready for the national stage

Since increasing the Green Party support on the Isle of Wight from 900 to over 9,000 votes in the 2015 General Election (and climibing), she was selected as the Green Party national spokesperson for Education. Vix has served in this role for eight years (longer than the same number of Secretary’s of State!) which has risen her profile across England and Wales.

Vix has appeared on national radio and television, addressed attendees at conferences, and shared the platform with national political leaders at Westminster (including Angela Rayner, Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell and Layla Moran).

She is ready to hit the ground running as our new MP for Isle of Wight East from day one!

“I’m thrilled with the incredible support I’ve already received from the residents of Isle of Wight East. It’s an exciting opportunity for us to have new MP, and I look forward to meeting you all on the campaign trail.”
